Segmentation Of Brain Mr Images For Tumor Area And Size...

SEGMENTATION OF BRAIN MR IMAGES FOR TUMOR AREA AND SIZE DETECTION BY USING OF CLUSTERING ALGORITHM Shinu Sadeyone1 Assistant professor (Sathyabama University, Chennai) S.Freeda2 Assistant professor (A.C.T engineering college, Chngalpattu) 1shinusedayone@gmail.com. 2freeda27@gmail.com. Abstract- There are different types of tumors are available. Astrocytoma is the most common type of tumor (30% of all brain tumor) and is usually a malignant one. Astrocytoma can be subdivided into four grades. Each grade has its own characteristics and unique treatment. In the event that any wrong treatment is given to these evaluations that prompts passing. So finding the position and shape of tumor is very important for the further treatment. The proposed system of this paper is to find the exact position and shape of the tumor cells. That helps the physician for further treatment. In the proposed system, it consists of four modules (i) Pre-processing, (ii) Segmentation of brain in MR Images,(iii) Quality extraction and (iv) Inexact reasoning. Preprocessing is carried out by sifting. Segmentation is carried out by cutting edge both K-means and Fuzzy C-means calculations. Quality extraction is by thresholding. Finally, Approximate reasoning method to recognize the tumor shape and p osition in MRI image. If the tumor is a mass in shape then k-means algorithm is enough to extract it from brain cells. The Influence of Globalization on Movies Free Essays

The Influence of Globalization on movies Nowadays, movies, which are the most important entertainment of people, has spent much more money and time than before by a growing number of people. Different kinds of new movies play nearly everyday; and the way to watch a movie isn’t confined to the cinema. Along with the improvement of digital postproduction and digital effect is applied to the movies, they make people to be personally on the scene when you watch a movie. We will write a custom essay sample on The Influence of Globalization on Movies or any similar topic only for you Order Now In the past twenty years, the changes of the ways to watch a movie and the movie technology have already influenced entertainment for people deeply. As we know, globalization on movies and films’ changes in the past twenty years had an effect on people’s daily life, so it was the reason for choosing this topic. We worked out six questionnaires about the project after deciding on the topic. We had 3 yes/no questions, for instance, do you like watching movies, how many movies do you watch per month and traditional movies are more valuable than commercial movies. In addition, we had a multiple choice in our survey, it is â€Å"Which kind of films do you like†. Besides these, two open questions were chosen, one is â€Å"What aspects of movie do you think have changed? †, another is â€Å"Which ways do you often watch movies? †. Our group planned to ask 12 people to answer the questions when we were finishing the questionnaires, so each group’s member needed to ask 3 people about the questions. Only my roommates were asked, and all questions were answered by a pencil. These men who were asked to answer the questions because of convenience; I could take up too much of their time to explain the project, the topic and the detail of the questions, too. The result was collected together when we finished asking the questions. The outcome of our survey is that all the interviewees like to watch movies. However, half of them watch movies less than 5 per month, nearly half of the interviewees watch 6 to 10 movies per month . Only one interviewee watches movies more than 20 per month. Disaster film and comedy film are the most popular movies among the interviewees, many people watch science fiction film and cartoon film as well. Fewer interviewees like watching crime film. A majority of people consider that movies’ theme need to change most because they want to watch a variety of movies. Meanwhile, the way to watch a movie is infinite variety, such as internet, at home by a DVD, cinema and web TV phone. Most interviewees also believe that traditional movies are more valuable than commercial movies. It can be seen from the survey’s figures that the ways to watch a movie and the movie technology have changed most in the past twenty years. Over the past days, only cinema was supplied for people who wanted to watch a movie. But now, more and more people watch movies at home through Family Cinema and computer because they make people comfortably. People can sit on the sofa even or lie in bed to watch a movie, and they are able to have some food and drink at the same time. However, in my opinion, movies’ changes which affect entertainment of people most is movie technology, particularly is computer digital special effects’ appearance. Digital special effect is not only a supplement for film editing, it have already penetrated into every aspect of movies, such as screenplay, scene, stage-ties and postproduction. The directors’ imagination is also at liberty to gallop on through the digital special effect. It makes people to be personally on the scene and shock each audience’s ghost. There is no doubt that people’s daily life is closed related to movies, and they play a very significant role in people’s entertainment life. Movies’ changes have never terminated in the past twenty years, and film industry has undergone enormous changes. How to cite The Influence of Globalization on Movies, Papers

Different Approaches Strategic Management â€Myassignmenthelp.Com

Question: Discuss About The Different Approaches Strategic Management? Answer: Introducation Strategic management can be referred to as the control, planning, directing and analyzing of an organizations resources with an aim of achieving its set goals and objectives. Strategic management gives a business a clear and direct sense of direction (Bergh et al, 2016). Therefore, it a process through which business managers set objectives, identify resources and implement their strategies to enable the business increase or improve its performance and gain competitive advantage in the market or industry (Rothaermel, 2015). Through strategic management, organizational managers have the opportunity to evaluate and analyze the organizations competitive advantage, the organizations internal status and evaluate every business and management operation. Strategic management helps the business managers to focus and concentrate on their priorities by directing their energy and resources towards improving the overall business operations (Trigeorgis et al, 2017). This is mostly possible when a ll the organizational employees are in board or rather understand the overall objective and goal of the organization. This basically motivates most employees into working towards something they understand and believe in, simply because they have a common goal to achieve. In that case, strategic management has proved to be a very important and useful tool or process for ensuring every businesss success and objective achievement. Every business organizations management team has to have its own strategic management strategy. Different organizations use completely different management strategies based on their size, number of employees, value of their employees, organizational goals and objectives, effect of the strategy to its employees among other things (Rothaermel, 2015). However, every management team must also have their own approach to their strategic management. This basically means a personal way engineered specifically for making strategic decisions. There are currently a number of different types of strategic management approaches. There are the general approaches and the alternative approaches. Current Standard Linear Approach The Standard Linear Approach management strategy focuses on the planning, control and directing of business goals and objectives towards their actual achievement and success. Basically, it concentrates on Nursing that the organization always has a competitive advantage over its competitors in the market. This means that the approach helps a business device ways to beat its competitors by achieving their objectives and goals. Through this approach, business managers are able to make sound and smart decisions (objectives and goals) and create an effective plan on how to achieve them. Advantages of Linear Approach The business managers have the opportunity to make better, smart objectives for the organization The managers are the only ones to make organizational decisions and not involving the Board of Directors Increases the chances of organizational productivity and success Provides methods of dealing with competitors Creates a better future for the business by identifying strategic directions Disadvantages of Using Linear Approach It is an expensive process in case changes happen Discourages flexibility of the business STAKEHOLDER APPROACH The stakeholder approached emerged in the 1980s when the publication of R. Edward Freemans strategic management in business and public policy was underway. This approach was discussed in details in the stakeholder theory article that was published during that time (Freeman et al, 2011). This approach is entirely based on issues that are related to or affect a businesss stakeholders. A stakeholders is an individual who is likely to be affected by the performance of an organization or in the outcome of a decision making process (Freeman, 2010). They include parties like, employees, managers, owners who are called the internal stakeholders and suppliers, society, government, investors, customers, financiers, shareholders, creditors to name a few, often known as the external stakeholders (Fassin, 2012). The approach focuses on addressing the morals and values of the business stakeholders. In other words, it tries to build a framework that concentrates on ensuring that the stakeholders co ncerns and wishes are met. The approach is able to help the business managers develop effective strategic decisions as well as create new opportunities for organizational growth and development (Harrison et al, 2013). The main purpose of this approach is to create different ways of managing and achieving the stakeholders objectives and maintain their relationships in a positive way. An example of a business organization that uses this approach is the RELX Group Company. Which is an international/Global company whose headquarters are based in London, United Kingdom. Also, it located in other developed countries like USA, Australia, Asia and China among others. The mining industry as well as the education industry e.g. University of Virginiaaresome of the industries that use this approach to manage their business operations. Through this approach, most businesses have been able to coexist with the surrounding society for as long as they have existed. Benefits of using Stakeholder Strategic Management The product brand is strengthened due to the ethics support provided by t5he stakeholders and the corporate social responsibility support as well There is better management relationships in the business Increases the chances of making better strategies and decisions Encourages better acceptance of the business actions by the stakeholders in general Limitations of Using Stakeholder Approach It is difficult to determine who the primary or secondary stakeholders are. This therefore limits the organization in knowing who will be most relevant when making decisions and who will not. There is frequent disagreements because of the confusion of purpose of every stakeholder There are conflicts regarding power and authority distribution among the stakeholders It is basically more of society success that business success which limits the overall business performance and success Implementation Issues Related to Stakeholder Approach To implement the stakeholder approach, the following steps can be followed (Freeman et al, 2011): Identification of the organizations stakeholders. This includes categorizing then into external or internal, secondary or primary, active or inactive. Create a value proposition for each stakeholder, i.e. determining what the business is expecting from the stakeholders group. This can be either emotional value, financial value or functional value for the business. Compare the value provided with the expected value for the business Create a profit model to use in managing the inevitable trade-offs among the stakeholders groups Identify the businesss key performance indicators to help you tract the organizations effectiveness. Some of the issues that relate to this implementation plan are: Its rules vague and impractical in the real world It does not clarify the specific stakeholders Does not give the specific benefit for the business It is not easy to identify the person involved with benefit allocation to the stakeholders Dynamic Capabilities Approach In general terms, dynamic capability of a business is the ability of the business to adapt to the organizational resources use. However, dynamic capabilities refers to the ability of a business to adapt to changes (external changes) in an effective and efficient way (Barros et al, 2016). Therefore, dynamic capabilities approach focuses on encouraging the business managers to develop their strategic decisions with an aim of maintaining the organizations operations and competitive advantage (Giniuniene and Jurksiene,2015). For instance, the current world technology improvement and advancement. This approach forces the business managers to manage the strategic changes induced by the technology development and maintain optimum business capability and achievement. In that case, the approach helps the managers to adapt to their ordinary business schedules and make use of the resources available and still plan for the organizations future state (Ambrosini and Bowman, 2009). This approach ba sically is used to determine the managers competence and effectiveness towards achieving the business goals and objectives and maintaining its competitive advantage in the current business world. This management approach is mostly used by business organizations that deal with technological changes. This basically means the businesses that produce products like technology applications, software systems, technology devices or information technology devices among other things like mobile phones, computers, software developers to name a few. Examples of such companies are: Apple and IBM. These are international companies which are growing and developing at very high rates based on technology advancement. These companies have been able to manage their environmental changes (specifically technology continuous change) and have also been able to maintain their competitive advantage. In other words, the companies have actually used the dynamic changes in their environment to develop their products and services which leads to their growth marketing development (Teece, 2017). Advantages of using Dynamic Capabilities Approach It encourages the business managers to work harder and be more focused Encourages the managers in making the most strategic and effective strategic decisions Enables the business to maintain and understand its sustainable advantage in dynamic environment Enable the business to expand its resource base view Enables a business organization to maintain its competitive advantage in a dynamic environment Helps the managers in creating an effective plan and determining a businesss future state efficiently Limitations of using Dynamic Capabilities Approach A business is not able to comprehend or predict the future state of its environment. This does not allow it to plan for the future effectively in terms of resource identification and use. The business organization may not have the resources needed to manage the changes in the environment as well as maintain its competitive advantage and success. This approach limits a business when it comes to determining the future effects or consequences related to future change or dynamism Implementation Issues Related to Dynamic Capabilities Approach There is a lot of uncertainty for the business that is using this approach. The business is not able to predict either the change or the impact that will accompany the change itself. It interferes with an organizations daily operations or schedule. In case of a drastic change in the environment, the business must change its resources or tactics to match the change. Sustainable Approach Business sustainability is a process by which companies manage their overall operations which consist of the financial, social, technical, internal and external operations. In addition to that, sustainability also involves the management and maintenance of a businesss environmental status (both internal and external environments), its strengths and weaknesses and the opportunities and threats (Aarseth et al, 2017). Therefore, Strategic management is the actual control, planning and directing of all the activities that affect a businesss sustainability (Adams et al, 2016). This means that its the evaluation and analysis of the techniques and strategies that a business management team takes to maintain its sustainability. In other terms, sustainability approach is used by business managers to ensure that they have created an effective and efficient environment for the business to sustain its development and growth in all aspects (Baumgartner and Rauter, 2017). This approach ensures tha t the business has a sustainable opportunity to earn maximum revenue, maintain its competitive advantage, effectively used and allocated the available resources among other things (Adams et al, 2016). Sustainable approach enables the business managers to make not just the right decisions for the business but also to ensure that the decisions made are capable of maintaining the business in its position and position as well as maintaining its growth and development levels high. However, this approach does not only focus on the business but also its surrounding environment. It ensures that the business encourages other environmental aspects like agriculture, society development and economic growth. Sustainable management focuses on improving the quality and status of the environment and effective use and allocation of the resources (Aarseth et al, 2017). Examples of companies that have implemented and made use of this approach are: Starbucks, Coca Cola and Ford which are all international companies. These companies have managed to implement this approach effectively for a long time now. This is simply because their operations basically depend on the environmental success and quality. The growth and development of these companies is prove that this approach is certainly dependable and reliable. Advantages of Using Sustainable Approach The business managers are able to take control of the business operations and the environmental success as well Decisions made are mainly in consideration of both the organizations and the environments success Helps an organization establish its own direction and plan for success Enable business managers to make strategic and effective decisions Enable an organization to be ongoing by creating long-term goals and objectives Increases the business focus to the future Increases employee satisfaction due to the encouragement originating from future focus and meaningful purpose of the employee Increases a businesss brand and image recognition Limitations of Using Sustainable Approach It limits the organization to the use and implementation of current and uprising technologies around the world Limits business development, growth and success. A business can not only focus on its success but has to consider the environmental success and maintenance as well Limits the environment into depending entirely on the business actions Implementations Issues Related to Use of Sustainable Approach A business may not be able to manage and maintain the success of both the organization and the environment, i.e. in most case, one succeed while the other fail (Baumgartner and Rauter, 2017). Requires a lot of funds and commitment to implement which is therefore an added expense to the business organization Conclusion From the research, strategic management is a very crucial process for every business. Strategic management approaches have proven to be very essential aspects for business success as well. The approach that any business chooses should be focused on its objective and goal achievement. There are actually a good number of strategic management approaches in the business world which have proven to be very effective and efficient for different business organizations. In that case, every business should choose the right and suitable approach to use in its operations. Stakeholder approach basically focuses on the satisfaction of the stakeholders only. Its advantages, disadvantages and implementation issues should guide a business towards choosing it. Sustainability (which focuses on both the business and environmental success, growth and development) and dynamic capabilities (mostly used for the business that use technology or dealing with drastic and unplanned environmental changes) approac hes also have their advantages and disadvantages listed above. Every organization should therefore understand all these aspects before choosing an approach to implement in its operations. Domestic Climate Policy

Introduction A policy is an official statement or set of statements used to define how particular issues are to be tackled by stakeholders. A policy comes into focus when decisions are being made.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Domestic Climate Policy specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More It has been used mostly by government institutions to achieve objectives of national interest. This paper focuses on both domestic and immigration policies. Domestic Climate Policy Framework Climate change has serious negative implications to both economic and social development within the country (Weiss, 2010). It is therefore important that domestic policy makers should come up with a mechanism to incorporate the Domestic Climate Policy Framework into widely accepted environmental policy. In order to achiev e this, policy makers should pay attention to the argument of elite theory (Dalton Klingermann, 2007). Elite theory is a theory of the state whose main theme is to explicate the relation of power within the modern society. According to the theory, a significant amount of power is held by networks of policy planners and economic elite members; the elite group consists of minority members who have a significant influence in the way policies are formulated in the United States. The power they hold is independent of state and is not subject to democratic process of elections. Therefore, policy makers should involve these elite members if Domestic Climate Policy Framework is to be successfully incorporated into a widely accepted environmental policy. For instance, the elite members run multimillion dollars businesses. As such, they have their own climate or environmental policies which they definitely consider to be cost effective for them; involving them will give them the opportunity to present their views. Hence, the policy makers should ensure that the elite members’ business interests are taken into consideration. This can best be achieved by allowing them to play a major role in the process of policy formulation and incorporation with other policies. Another instance is that the elite members have financial powers and are able to fund various policy networks to their own advantage.Advertising Looking for research paper on government? Immigration Policy Dye’s argument that the success of immigration reform in the United States has been partially successful is right (Dye, 2010). It is important to note that immigration has contributed to the diversification of the United States’ cultur e. It has also increased the population of the United States. However, the government’s immigration policy has not been sustainable. This endangers the United States’ economy, diplomacy and security. The current immigration reform has a gap that has been utilized by illegal immigrants to the detriment of American citizens. National security is important when it comes to the formulation of immigration policies (Thangasamy, 2007).Therefore, policy makers need to keep in mind the national security when formulating every immigration policy. This is because weak and ineffective immigration policy has the potential to allow illegal immigrants with dangerous antisocial ideologies into the United States. This may compromise national security. For instance, the terrorist attack on the United States’ soil in 2001 was suspected to have been masterminded by foreign immigrants. Besides, there are individuals living in the United States without proper legal documentation. Thi s has the potential to jeopardize the dreams and freedom of children parented by such people. The policy makers should therefore pay critical attention to children whose presence in the United States was due to their parents’ decision and not their own; in other words, the immigration policy should not make innocent children suffer from the sins of their parents. Otherwise, the United States may compromise its status as a democratic state.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Domestic Climate Policy specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The policy makers should also focus on immigration policies of other allies of the United States. This will save the United States the possible diplomatic fallout due to misunderstandings which may be attributed to conflicting immigration policies. Conclusion Both domestic and immigration policies are good for the United States. Policy makers should ensure that all the elit e members in the United States are involved in the process of incorporating Domestic Climate Policy Framework into a widely accepted environmental policy. Besides, the argument by Dye (2010) that the success of immigration reform in the United States has been partially successful is true. The reform has not addressed the gaps used by illegal immigrants to get into the United States. Therefore, the policy makers should have in mind the nation’s security when formulating immigration policy. This should also apply to innocent children who could not control their immigration to the United States. References Dalton, R. Klingermann, H. (2007). Oxford Handbook of Political Behavior. The 9 Most Common Shapes and How to Identify Them

The 9 Most Common Shapes and How to Identify Them SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips You’ve probably learned a lot about shapes without ever really thinking about what they are. But understanding what a shape is is incredibly handy when comparing it to other geometric figures, such as planes, points, and lines. In this article, we’ll cover what exactly a shape is, as well as a bunch of common shapes, what they look like, and the major formulas associated with them. What Is a Shape? If someone asks you what a shape is, you’ll likely be able to name quite a few of them. But â€Å"shape† has a specific meaning, too- it’s not just a name for circles, squares, and triangles. A shape is the form of an object- not how much room it takes up or where it is physically, but the actual form it takes. A circle isn’t defined by how much room it takes up or where you see it, but rather the actual round form that it takes. A shape can be any size and appear anywhere; they’re not constrained by anything because they don’t actually take up any room. It’s kind of hard to wrap your mind around, but don’t think of them as being physical objects- a shape can be three-dimensional and take up physical room, such as a pyramid-shaped bookend or a cylinder can of oatmeal, or it can be two-dimensional and take up no physical room, such as a triangle drawn on a piece of paper. The fact that it has a form is what differentiates a shape from a point or a line. A point is just a position; it has no size, no width, no length, no dimension whatsoever. A line, on the other hand, is one-dimensional. It extends infinitely in either direction and has no thickness. It’s not a shape because it has no form. Though we may represent points or lines as shapes because we need to actually see them, they don’t actually have any form. That’s what differentiates a shape from the other geometric figures- it’s two- or three-dimensional, because it has a form. Cubes, like those seen here, are three-dimensional forms of squares- both are shapes! The 6 Main Types of Two-Dimensional Geometric Shapes Picturing a shape just based on definition is difficult- what does it mean to have form but not take up space? Let’s take a look at some different shapes to better understand what exactly it means to be a shape! We often classify shapes by how many sides they have. A â€Å"side† is a line segment (part of a line) that makes up part of a shape. But a shape can have an ambiguous number of sides, too. Type 1: Ellipses Ellipses are round, oval shapes in which a given point (p) has the same sum of distance from two different foci. Oval An oval looks a bit like a smooshed circle- rather than being perfectly round, it’s elongated in some way. However, the classification is imprecise. There are many, many kinds of ovals, but the general meaning is that they are a round shape that is elongated rather than perfectly round, as a circle is.An oval is any ellipses where the the foci are in two different positions. Because an oval is not perfectly round, the formulas we use to understand them have to be adjusted. It’s also important to note that calculating the circumference of an oval is quite difficult, so there’s no circumference equation below. Instead, use an online calculator or a calculator with a built-in circumference function, because even the best circumference equations you can do by hand are approximations. Definitions Major Radius: the distance from the oval’s origin to the furthest edge Minor Radius: the distance from the oval’s origin to the nearest edge Formulas Area = $\Major \Radius*\Minor \Radius*Ï€$ Circle How many sides does a circle have? Good question! There’s no good answer, unfortunately, because â€Å"sides† have more to do with polygons- a two-dimensional shape with at least three straight sides and typically at least five angles. Most familiar shapes are polygons, but circles have no straight sides and definitely lack five angles, so they are not polygons. So how many sides does a circle have? Zero? One? It’s irrelevant, actually- the question simply doesn’t apply to circles. A circle isn’t a polygon, but what is it? A circle is a two-dimensional shape (it has no thickness and no depth) made up of a curve that is always the same distance from a point in the center. An oval has two foci at different positions, whereas a circle's foci are always in the same position. Definitions Origin: the center point of the circle Radius: the distance from the origin to any point on the circle Circumference: the distance around the circle Diameter: the length from one edge of the circle to the other $\bo{Ï€}$: (pronounced like pie) 3.141592†¦; ${\the \circumference \of \a \circle}/{\the \radius \of \a \circle}$; used to calculate all kinds of things related to circles Formulas Circumference = $Ï€*\radius$ Area = $Ï€*\radius^2$ Type 2: Triangles Triangles are the simplest polygons. They have three sides and three angles, but they can look different from one another. You might have heard of right triangles or isosceles triangles- those are different types of triangles, but all will have three sides and three angles. Because there are many kinds of triangles, there are lots of important triangle formulas, many of them more complex than others. The basics are included below, but even the basics rely on knowing the length of the triangle’s sides. If you don’t know the triangle’s sides, you can still calculate different aspects of it using angles or only some of the sides. Definitions Vertex: the point where two sides of a triangle meet Base: any of the triangle’s sides, typically the one drawn at the bottom Height: the vertical distance froma base to a vertex it is not connected to Formulas Area = ${\base*\height}/2$ Perimeter = $\side a + \side b + \side c$ Type 3: Parallelograms A parallelogram is a shape with equal opposite angles, parallel opposite sides, and parallel sides of equal length. You might notice that this definition applies to squares and rectangles- that’s because squares and rectangles are also parallelograms! If you can calculate the area of a square, you can do it with any parallelogram. Definitions Length: the measure of the bottom or top side of a parallelogram Width: the measure of the left or right side of a parallelogram Formulas Area: $\length*\height$ Perimeter: $\Side 1 + \Side 2 + \Side 3 + \Side 4$ Alternatively, Perimeter: $\Side*4$ Rectangle A rectangle is a shape with parallel opposite sides, combined with all 90 degree angles. As a type of parallelogram, it has opposite parallel sides. In a rectangle, one set of parallel sides is longer than the other, making it look like an elongated square. Because a rectangle is a parallelogram, you can use the exact same formulas to calculate their area and perimeters. Square A square is a lot like a rectangle, with one notable exception: all its sides are equal length. Like rectangles, squares have all 90 degree angles and parallel opposite sides. That’s because a square is actually a type of rectangle, which is a type of parallelogram! For that reason, you can use the same formulas to calculate the area or perimeter of a square as you would for any other parallelogram. Rhombus A rhombus is- you guessed it- a type of parallelogram. The difference between a rhombus and a rectangle or square is that its interior angles are only the same as their diagonal opposites. Because of this, a rhombus looks a bit like a square or rectangle skewed a bit to the side. Though perimeter is calculated the same way, this affects the way that you calculate the area, because the height is no longer the same as it would be in a square or rectangle. Definition Diagonal: the length between two opposite vertices Formulas Area = ${\Diagonal 1*\Diagonal 2}/2$ Type 4: Trapezoids Trapezoids are four-sided figures with two opposite parallel sides. Unlike a parallelogram, a trapezoid has just two opposite parallel sides rather than four, which impacts the way you calculate the area and perimeter. Definitions Base: either of a trapezoid’s parallel sides Legs: either of the trapezoids non-parallel sides Altitude: the distance from one base to the other Formulas Area: $({\Base_1\length + \Base_2\length}/2)\altitude$ Perimeter: $\Base + \Base + \Leg + \Leg$ Type 5: Pentagons A pentagon is a five-sided shape. We typically see regular pentagons, where all sides and angles are equal, but irregular pentagons also exist. An irregular pentagon has unequal side and unequal angles, and can be convex- with no angles pointing inward- or concave- with an internal angle greater than 180 degrees. Because the shape is more complex, it needs to be divided into smaller shapes to calculate its area. Definitions Apothem: a line drawn from the pentagon’s center to one of the sides, hitting the side at a right angle. Formulas Perimeter: $\Side 1 + \Side 2 + \Side 3 + \Side 4 + \Side 5$ Area: ${\Perimeter*\Apothem}/2$ Type 6: Hexagons A hexagon is a six-sided shape that is very similar to pentagon. We most often see regular hexagons, but they, like pentagons, can also be irregular and convex or concave. Also like pentagons, a hexagon’s area formula is significantly more complex than that of a parallelogram. Formulas Perimeter: $\Side 1 + \Side 2 + \Side 3 + \Side 4 + \Side 5 + \Side 6$ Area: ${3√3*\Side*2}/2$ Alternatively, Area: ${\Perimeter*\Apothem}/2$ What AboutThree-Dimensional Geometric Shapes? There are also three-dimensional shapes, which don’t just have a length and a width, but also depth or volume. These are shapes you see in the real world, like a spherical basketball, a cylindrical container of oatmeal, or a rectangular book. Three-dimensional shapes are naturally more complex than two-dimensional shapes, with an additional dimension- the amount of space they take up, not just the form- to include when calculating area and perimeter. Math involving 2D shapes, such as those above, is called plane geometry because it deals specifically with planes, or flat shapes. Math involving 3D shapes like spheres and cubes is called solid geometry, because it deals with solids, another word for 3D shapes. Because solids are even more complex than the 2D shapes discussed above, they’re worthy of their own discussion in a separate blog post coming soon! 2D shapes make up the 3D shapes we see every day! 3 Key Tips for Working With Shapes There are so many types of shapes that it can be tricky to remember which is which and how to calculate their areas and perimeters. Here’s a few tips and tricks to help you remember them! #1: Identify Polygons Some shapes are polygons and some are not. One of the easiest ways to narrow down what type of shape something is is figuring outif it's a polygon. A polygon is comprised of straight lines that do not cross. Which of the shapes below are polygons and which are not? The circle and oval are not polygons, which means their area and perimeter are calculated differently. Learn more about how to calculate them using $Ï€$ above! #2: Check for Parallel Sides If the shape you’re looking at is a parallelogram, it’s generally easier to calculate its area and perimeter than if it isn’t a parallelogram. But how do you identify a parallelogram? It’s right there in the name- parallel. A parallelogram is a four-sided polygon with two sets of parallel sides. Squares, rectangles, and rhombuses are all parallelograms. Squares and rectangles use the same basic formulas for area- length times height. They’re also very easy to find perimeter for, as you just add all the sides together. Rhombuses are where things get tricky, because you multiply the diagonals together and divide by two. To determine what kind of parallelogram you’re looking at, ask yourself if it has all 90-degree angles. If yes, it’s either a square or a rectangle. A rectangle has two sides that are slightly longer than the others, whereas a square has sides of all equal length. Either way, you calculate the area by multiplying the length times the height and perimeter by adding all four sides together. If no, it’s probably a rhombus, which looks like if you took a square or rectangle and skewed it in either direction. In this case, you’ll find the area by multiplying the two diagonals together and dividing by two. Perimeter is found the same way that you would find the perimeter of a square or rectangle. #3: Count the Number of Sides Formulas for shapes that don’t have four sides can get quite tricky, so your best bet is to memorize them. If you have trouble keeping them straight, try memorizing the Greek words for numbers, such as: Tri: three, as in triple, meaning three of something Tetra: four, as in the number of squares in a Tetris block Penta: five, as in the Pentagon in Washington D.C., which is a large building in the shape of a Pentagon Hexa: six, as in hexadecimal, the six-digit codes often used for color in web and graphic design Septa: seven, as in Septa, the female clergy of Game of Thrones’ religion, which has seven gods Octo: eight, as in the eight legs of an octopus Ennea: nine, as in an enneagram, a common model for human personalities Deca: ten, as in a decathlon, in which athletes complete ten events What’s Next? Debussy and Orientalism Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Debussy and Orientalism - Essay Example This essay "Debussy and Orientalism" outlines the life of the Debussy and his impact on the music of the 20th century. In the midpoint of his career was the last years of the 19th century were he released the three nocturnes, which was sharply contrasting with Wagnerian opera. After ten years of work, his Pelleas te Melisande proved to be his only complete opera which was based on a play by Maurice Maeterlinck, it was an instant hit and it influenced many young composers such as Maurice Ravel, his works brought to new rhythm and fluidity and color that had been retrospectively absent in western composition. In the La mer Essays, between 1903 to 1905, the music had a more philharmonic format with an ending whose subjects were borrowed from the initial thought to the intermediate period. According to his critics, this was seen as a less subtle step in his progress, to some it was even perceived as negative. True to his pupil perchance for trying new things and gravitating from the conv entional, he let himself be influenced by a new type of music in the west that most modern composers would rather have kept from their scores. This was Javanese gamelan; an oriental style that he found to be both appealing and intriguing. The orchestra, which composed bells gongs and percussions, mesmerized him so much that his style noticeably changed as he implemented parts of this composition in his later music. He did not refer to the gamelan scales or ensemble; however, his sensitive and refined melodies were overtly achieved with the application of oriental exotic scales.

Perception and Individual Decision-Making & Motivation Concepts Essay

Perception and Individual Decision-Making & Motivation Concepts - Essay Example Employee attitudes can be influenced by various issues and the worst among them is racial background. Racialism as a source of employee attitude leads to the development of negative attitudes among employees. Normally, the attitudes of employees of an organization affects the organization in various ways. First, it affects their own productivity, often without their awareness. Reisig and  Lovrichh (1998) explains that positive attitudes result to improved productivity and such employees are characterized by self-motivation, hard work, drive to achieve, good moods and happy faces to all. On the other hand, negative attitudes lead to reduced productivity both for individuals and teams, rudeness and even aggressiveness. Ray (2001) explains that employee attitudes can be very infectious. Within a short time, other employees can pick up negative attitudes from fellow workers and adopt them as their own. Team spirit is very important for the success of an organization and where group att itudes arise, they can either foster or frustrate this. A positive team attitude makes employees to want to works together for the good of the company whereas a negative attitude discourages team work. Employees of one race, tribe or any other dividing factor will not be willing to work together with their counterparts. One type of organization that can really be affected by poor attitudes among its staff is prison. Poor attitudes among correctional staff in a state prison could affect other aspects of that prison like its security, management of inmates, designing of teams for employee shifts and coexistence among inmates. The development of poor attitudes can lead to disunity among employees of different racial groups and as such, employees arrange themselves along racial lines when changing shifts and forming teams (Ray, 2001). This is so negative considering that at any one time, there might be no equal number of employees from different racial background. This means a group con taining a mixture of races will work in hatred and disunity. Some could even end up subordinating others. Hatred along racial lines could also spreads from staffs to the inmates where they form gangs whose loyalties are defined by race or ethnicity (Kane, 2001). This has the potential of causing detrimental effects on the prison for example, it can lead to gang violence, riots and physical altercations. Divisions along racial lines may also threaten the security of the prison and everybody else where prison staffs ignore unacceptable actions by done by inmates from their racial or ethnic backgrounds. This means that some individual inmates or group of inmates will have the freedom to oppress fellow inmates or smuggle things in and out of the prison. On the other hand, the other inmates will have little support whenever they voice their concerns. Poor attitudes among prison staff affects how inmates are treated in that some will conservative and hard-lined when dealing with inmates w hereas other will be less strict and liberal. The greatest level of disunity, disagreement and arguments is seen when such attitudes are displayed by employees from various ethnic, racial and gender backgrounds. Poor attitudes a

A Comparative Analysis of the Foreign Policy Process between France Essay

A Comparative Analysis of the Foreign Policy Process between France and Germany - Essay Example As observed by Philip Gordon, â€Å"Franco-German military cooperation in the postwar period seems to have taken place despite important differences in perspective between the two countries, not because of a fundamental rapprochement of views† (Krotz, 2001, p. 3). He added that â€Å"at both public and elite levels, French and German attitudes toward security and defence were highly different† (Krotz, 2001, p. 3). However, as stated, France and Germany, despite of their different approaches to foreign policy were able to build an alliance and become a major force in the European Union (EU). This essay analyses the similarities and differences between the foreign policy process in France and Germany. Comparing and Contrasting French and German Foreign Policy In analysing the specific similarities and differences between the foreign policies of France and Germany, it is important to take into account the historical foundation of the Franco-German relations. The assumption that a strong diplomacy in Europe should be based on compromise between France and Germany is firmly embraced throughout the German political community. The ‘rapprochement’—reconciliation—between Germany and France was established in 1963 through the Elysee Treaty (McCarthy, 2001, p. 118). Nevertheless, contrary to their strong alliance in the economic sector, a strong cooperation has been problematic in the security and defence arena. The Franco-German relationship throughout the Cold War was mainly rooted in the effort of Germany to discreetly take part in security and foreign policy, which allowed France to control the arrangement. The eastward territorial expansion and reunification of Germany thus brought about a level of apprehension in France that Germany would reassess their alliance, specifically when dealing with the objectives and interests

Physical Observed Assessment Analysis

Physical Observed Assessment Analysis COMMUNICATION Any form of interaction is done through communication as a skill. To human interaction it is pivotal. Communication is a process which enables people to relate with those around them and to make concerns and needs know very well indeed. Communication can be verbal and non- verbal.Peate (2005) states that non- verbal communication reinforces a verbally communicated message. Building an important sustaining relationships with a patient, eye contact, smiling, touching, head nodding and leaning forward all these are recommended and have been seen as more helpful in communicating with patients on non-verbal communication. These are the signs and symbols we use, they have powerful impact in interpreting and sharing the meanings of messages. Non-judgemental interactions are focused on therapeutic communication, helps settle emotional conflicts and supports heart to heart talks allowing a patient to feel safe and free to share their true feelings, fears, values, hopes and ideas. This can result in healing benefits. According to Crawford et al (2006), communication is central and powerful, it helps not damage a patient’s life. Other important attributes of communication are listening and acknowledgeing. These are also essential because they raise the self –esteem of patients, thereby paving way for a therapeutic relationship. All details that could identify any person, clinical placement or trust have been changed to protect confidentiality, in line with The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Professional Conduct, Performance and Ethics (2008) the name used will be Mr. Smith. This assignment is going to be discussed about a physical observed assessment which was observed during practice at placement. Mr. Smith came in with different medical history problems. The reason why he was admitted in hospital is because he had eye condition two months ago. On assessment, Mr. Smith was coughing, wheezy and dyspnoeic with shallow breathing accompanied by the use of accessory muscles. His hands were clammy. Mr. Smith said that he did not want to be in hospital, was tough and appeared very anxious during assessment. Touch was the Communication tools which was used to assess him during the period he was admitted in the ward. He could not see the nurse when she was talking to him because of his vision lost. Mr. Smith suffers with an eye condition. This is a condition somewhere the optic nerve is injured next to the idea of where it will opt out. With this kind of condition that Mr. Smith has, when trying to communicate with Mr. Smith you must attempt to be at the similar eye level as him, continually examine to find if he is able to comprehend you or not.so that you will be able to achieve Mr. Smith’s courtesy and to keep his attention during the discussion, the use of touch is vital. Establishing the health care needs, when a patient is admitted an assessment has to be done. Assessment is one of the greatest vital jobs any qualified workers can agree to. If it is done systematically by using the range of skills that is required, it can show to be most actual and authorising knowledge for everybody anxious. But it requires to be completed appropriately and to the best of your capability. Before arriving at any decision MDT has work and achieve their set of goals effectively, communication has to take place at all levels across the various discipline.NMC (2008) specifies that nurses should make patients their first concern and treat them with compassion maintaining the individual aspects, NMC (2011) sees communication as an important skill that complements the proficiencies that nurses are required to accomplish. Mr. Smith’s nurse has made a plan. A plan was a session which lasts 30minutes and allowed me to observe my mentor what she has been doing with Mr. Smith. When someone is sensitive to touch, they are many signs that will indicate. Facial expression, a bite reflex or grinding teeth are most visible when touching someone. The procedure which was used by the nurse reduced the relieves reaction. She started by touching Mr. Smith’s hands then slowly moving them up his arms final on his shoulders, she clarified this was beneficial to the patient, slowly developed the use of being touched. She then engaged both hands on the side of Mr. Smith’s face slightly and started with the movements. The reason she did this was because she wanted to warm up Mr. Smith’s face muscles. The nurse now provided Mr. Smith some facial languages to attempt and transport out such as sulking, pleasure, irritation, surprise and grief. Furthermore make sure they are agreed out correctly with sufficient of time, as if they are hurried they will not be achieved correctly. (Timby 2005) indicated that touch is the best potent non-verbal message techinique. It is a caring and calming hint shows the patients that the nurse helps. Remain confident to practice touch in this technique only if there is non –violent to patients. However( Holey and Matthews 2013) stated that touch is a cultural ,some patients prefer that you not touch them except for treatment purpose, Many feel that touch is a medical setting signals that something disagreeable is about to happen. If you feel the patient is friendly, offer a comforting touch when nothing offensive or painful is planned. ( Kowalski 2008) suggest that before touch as a means of giving concern and compassion, defined by seeing the client whether your touch is wanted without consent agreed touching implies a certain understanding and creates power to the one who is touching over the one who is touched. There are many plans needs to be considered when communicating with a lost vision clients (Mr. Smith). It is vital to make face to face with Mr. Smith when communicating with him, if required, bow or be seated down so you remain on level where he can see you eye to eye and he can also hear your voice. (Timby ,2005) stated that eye to eye communication means eyeing straight into the eye of the other person .Absence of eye interaction has a number of meanings among cultures. Do not speak to him when you are not standing in front of him where cannot see or hear you clearly or do not go missing while cooperating. With Mr. Smith’s condition you have to speak with a tone voice since he has a vision condition. There signs that can encourage Mr. Smith toward communicate such as touching overall comments and using his title before introduction into general discussions can help Mr. Smith to feel more relaxed to be involved in a discussion. To keep a flowing discussion the healthcare professional are required to use inquiries, encouragements and investigations as required (Stretch, 2006). During clinical placement mentor investigated the patient, Mr. Smith assisting him by giving him a cup of tea, the nurse asked him if he would like a cup of tea.’Mr. Smith frustrated to say coffee, vocal, keeping a flowing discussion and prompts and inquiries. The point to which we trust on non- vocal signs for example; face appearance, body actions, or sign, to maintain our verbal production is not regularly fully familiar. The patient who is very unpleasant, or in discomfort might discover these nonverbal signs difficult to produce. The nurse’s duty is to attempt to talk this with Mr. Smith and his family to look at likely choices for avoiding this possible failure in communication. Where verbal communication is condensed through someone who cannot talk very well or intellectual changes, the non-verbal position can deliver a different and actual main approach of both meaning receiving and giving. There are changed channels in which personal communication can be conserved. Maintaining social communication, this benefits to maintain Mr. Smith’s self-esteem. Always try to save speaking, Mr. Smith might discover some of the non-verbal movements helpful and many are understood. Use touch carefully, it is clear that Mr. Smith relaxes at comfort as soon as touch is complex even if it a finger on his shoulders. Inspire efforts to communicate and deliver other types of encouragement with Mr. Smith, touch feeling, face to face languages, body posture, space and equal amongst vulnerable and nurse Barriers such as term practice, phrases, images and knowledge styles have an effect. Semantic obstacles perform a massive part in the program of message from the nurses to the clients or the added method round. Arguments may have a unlike significance even communicating in not in different languages. Therefore while trying to communicate with Mr. Smith these features must be extremely measured earlier, for example no judge mental. Thompson (2003) stated that a barrier gesture is any action, behavior or physical arrangement that discourages the other person from feeling comfortable, thereby reducing their ability to communicate positively and effectively. However Trevithick (2005) suggests that one of the skills which occasionally works to help unlock someone’s barrier gestures is called a mirroring.Mr.Smith use to sit up in bed with his arms locked, if his vision was good mirroring would have been an good idea to him. For example if they are sitting with arms firmly crossed, you do the same for a while that is if their vision is clear, but this would be a disadvantage to him because the vision condition he has. However, the vision is not clear enough you have to talk to them, slowly they begin to unfold your arms, and you may find that they copy your actions and begin visibly to relax especially to those who can see you. It is worth an occasional try, but it needs to be done marginally, and there is no promise that it works. However active listening can be used as well. Docherty and McCallum (2009) states that ‘Active listening’ ensures that everything that a person is trying to say is fully received and understood by the listeners. This will include trying to comprehend not just what the person is saying with their chosen words, but what some of their underlying thoughts and feelings are that may be taken as much by what they do not say and by their body language, as by the words they use. Trevithick (2005) suggest that ‘Active listening’ is often used by helping professionals to highlight the significance of the movement. Furthermore Crawford et al (2006) states that sometimes patients just need you to be there, quiet and listening and this can also be achieved using the acronym SOLER.Consequently, a good listener will always pay attention to non-verbal cues too and this encourages the patients to open up giving more information and expressing their concerns. From this it can be deducted that respect is given to a patient’s contribution best when they are listened too. Active listening has several layers to it, it is only hearing the words which are being spoken by people. It is easier than done, which is why such an importance is laid upon it as a core communication skill. The listening skills we need will vary according to the setting of the tasks. For an example, if you are a nurse you may need to produce vital information about a patient’s symptoms in order to reach a correct opinion. This example illustrate the complication of the listing task. The common subject, however, the type of question that can be used in active listening. There are grouped together into two categories which is Open questions and closed questions.Open questions are used when you want to help someone to ‘open up’ about themselves, or to give you some insights into how they feeling or to explore a situation in more depth. When Mr. Smith has been assessed by the nurse on the time he came in hospital. She asked him with her manner voice and she was speaking slowly in order for the patient to hear her well and clearly. Her tone voice overwhelmed Mr. Smith and he then explained his situation to the nurse more deeply, so this helped the nurse to get more information from her patient because he was talking about the topic to the nurse. Open questions do not allow a straightforward ‘yes’ or ‘no’ response, but it will invite the patients to talk about the topic like what Mr. Smith did to my mentor. Not everyone will feel able to open up’ easily and share their deep thoughts and feelings. Some people needs to go step by step and to be led by interviewer until they gain confidence to go deeper. This is why closed questions also have an important role to play. Closed questions invite a straightforward ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer, they are necessary in gathering factual information in as straightforward a way as possible. This questions can give a message to the interviewee that you are in charge, know what you are doing and where you are going, and that they can put their confidence in you. In this case it is not that open questions are good and closed questions are bad, it is a gross magnification. Each of these two has it ‘s own part to play in a well-balanced effective interview, and it is up to you to judge which will be most suitable and real as the interview explains. Conclusion However, communication is certainly a principle commanding for the real caring. Performance and communication of caring and capability at this time have a main effect on the ability of patients and relations to adjust the update, reflect choices, and adjust to anything deceptions forward. If the update is depressed the right touch, appearance, and compassionate kind terms constantly displays a change. The main ideas that have been debated in this assignment are that of the significance of communicating in nursing and how nurses can progress their communication skills and keep their competence. We must deliver complete care for our patients and the objective is to listen to the person and offer them with concerned understanding. REFERENCES Lee Thayer, (2011). The Courage of Beowulf Essay -- Epic of Beowulf Essays

Courage is a theme that is shown throughout the entire epic of Beowulf. By definition courage is the state or quality of mind or spirit that enables one to face danger, fear, or vicissitudes on ones own will and determination. There are many things form the epic that could be used to prove this statement, but I chose to use the section entitled "The Final Battle." In this section there are two great speeches given by both Beowulf and Wiglaf. I believe that in both of these monologues courage is portrayed by the two warriors, and it is easy to see why.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In Section 14, lines 674-685 Beowulf says,   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  "....I feel no shame, with shield and sword and armor, against this monster: when   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  he comes to me I mean to stand, not to run from his shooting flames, stand till  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  fate decides which one of us wins. My heart is firm, my hands calm: I need no  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  hot words. Wait for me close by, my friends. We shall see, soon, who will survive  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  this bloody battle, stand when the fighting is done. No one else could do what I  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  mean to, here, no man but me could hope to defeat this monster. No one could  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  try..." Now, this passage pretty much explains Beowulf's courage without an interpretation, but for the sake of argument I will interpret it for you. Beowulf is saying that he has no fear in fighting this monster, because he means to stand and not run. He says that his heart is firm and his hands are calm,...
